About Us

Kid's Arctic Art Incentive is a certified nonprofit volunteer run program designed to support, encourage and reward fine art initiatives for the youth of Canada's north.

Our goal is to inspire children of our northern communities with opportunities of creative initiative. By sustaining an art incentive reward program, we involve the entire community in supporting opportunities of exploration of the arts for their children, in turn enriching student, the community and the future of visual arts in Canada's.

By showing our support, we offer an opportunities and rewards for taking initiatives in creative expression. With clear objectives and your support, Kid's Arctic Art Incentive Inc. is sure to be a success.

Churchill is an isolated community with air or rail being the only means of transportation to the south. Long and grueling 9 month winters limit options for extracurricular activities. The culture and history Canada's north is a vibrant representation of the diversity in the heart and soul of our country. While welcoming the world to their doorstep, Churchill retains the fortitude and strength of its culture and community, which gives the children of the north a unique perspective. The community and the school are enthusiastic participants in the Kid's Arctic Art Incentive program.

Truly a unique gem in Canada's arctic, the splendor and beauty of this unique arctic oasis is met with equally harsh and relentlessly long winters. Children growing up in this spirited land still find a lack of fine art opportunities in this beautiful but isolated community.

This is the reason Kid's Arctic Art Incentive Inc. was created. Kid's Arctic Art Incentive was created to give them that opportunity.

Congratulations to our winners!

A big thank you to all our participants for making our first art incentive a huge success. Thank you to all who entered your drawings! It is an honor to feature your art here in our Mini-Contest Gallery.

Spearheading this incentive is Artist / Designer Kim Hunter, whose own diligence and successes in the arts have only fueled the fire to encourage the artistic expression of the arctic community in which she was raised. This program is made possible only with the support from sponsors, volunteers, the town of Churchill, it's business owners, and the community at large.

The idea isn't new. Decades ago a security guard in Churchill decided that with the 9 - 10 month winters, the kids needed an indoor playground. He built a "wishing well" and collected donations. The indoor recreational complex now has a 2 story, entirely padded, beautiful, safe space for the children to play comfortably during the long winters!

On a smaller scale, little Plexiglas boxes are available at local businesses and tour outfitters within the town of Churchill. Tourists and locals alike are encouraged to make small contributions in our kid's arctic art incentive donation boxes.

Online opportunities to donate or shop for the cause are available to everyone. Visit Kid's Arctic Art Incentive Swag Shop Online, shirts, apparel, gifts, decor and keepsakes are available online in our Online Gift Shop for purpose of fundraising. Visit our Get Involved page to see how you can participate and show your support.

Contact us for details if you would like to display a box or volunteer for this incentive. Have an idea for a fundraiser or for supporting this great cause? E-mail us and share your ideas and experiences.

The size and magnitude of the contests and exhibit awards is entirely dependent on the success of donations, sponsorship and fundraising. Once a year awards will be presented to the kids who have been chosen by their peers & community. We feel a formal submission to a 'professional' panel would deter some entries. To keep the project casual and approachable, submissions remain within the school, by the kids for the kids. The recipient(s) of the award are chosen by their peers. It is the kids themselves, who arrange local "showings" in the gym or for public viewing. Tickets are issued to student attendees. Children vote for their favorite piece by placing their ticket in an envelope or bag provided with each submission. Optionally, adults can make a small donation to be afforded the opportunity to vote. In case of a tie, a panel of jurors would have the final decision.

This initiative is open to children of all ages, although the age range for the awards is reserved for children 12-17 years of age. This way, children of all ages are encouraged to participate in the exhibitions and showings. Students who show initiative in the support of the project are also eligible for awards. Prior to the end of each school year, the award(s) will be presented to the winners. A small online gallery like those similar to a facebook page or blog has been made available for kids to showcase their art online.

Art inspired by Kid's Arctic Art Incentive for the promotion of the project has been donated by the founder of Kid's Arctic Art Incentive. Our online gift shop gives you the opportunity to shop for the cause (e.g.: shirts, keepsakes, decor, gifts), with all proceeds from the sale of these designs going towards the encouragement of the arts in Canada's north. A PayPal donation button has also been made available to those who would like to show your support by making a donation. Purchases, collections, donations will be ongoing.

The founders can supply the initial award regardless of how the fundraising evolves. Perhaps the first year's award will be as simple as art supplies or instructional art books as a token of appreciation for the creative initiative a deserving student shows.

Above and beyond the simplest of awards that can be supplied by the volunteers, the monies collected from donations will determine the caliber of the award(s) granted. The enthusiastic support of the community and school is the backbone of this initiative.

We imagine a little project like Kid's Arctic Art Incentive Inc. with the help of its supporters, will flower into a fantastic opportunity to enrich and inspire the youth of Canada's arctic kids to be enriched and inspired by some of the greatest works of art worldwide.

Kind and creative regards,

Kim Hunter
